Know what a Swap Meet is

Talvez existam outros nomes/apelidos para isso, mas uma Swap Meeting (como minhas amigas costumavam chamar no Brasil) ou um Bring and Buy (como minhas amigas chamam aqui na Alemanha) é um encontro especial no qual as pessoas trazem as coisas que gostariam de negociar ('swap') ou vender. É uma oportunidade incrível de ver muitos itens lolita pessoalmente, experimentar acessórios diferentes e conseguir coisas novas mesmo se você não tiver muito dinheiro, já que você estará principalmente trocando mercadorias.

Maybe there are other names/nicknames for this, but a Swap Meeting (how my friends used to call in Brazil) or a Bring and Buy (how my friends call it here in Germany) is a special meetup in which people bring the things they would like to trade ('swap') or sell. It is an amazing opportunity to see lots of lolita items in person, to try different things on and to get new stuff even if you don't have much money, since you'll be primarily exchanging goods.

O último Swap Meet que participei foi em agosto de 2022 (pensei que fosse no ano passado... mencionei brevemente aqui), e neste último domingo nossa querida Orga* Charlotte organizou um na casa da mãe dela. Éramos tantas lolitas lá! Ocupamos 2 araras de roupas, uma só com partes de cima, e outra só com saias, vestidos e conjuntos.

The last Swap Meet I went was in August 2022 (I thought it was last year... I mentioned briefly here), and this last Sunday our dear Orga* Charlotte hosted one at her mom's place. We were so many lolitas there! We used 2 clothing racks, one just for tops, other just with skirts, dresses and sets.

Ocupamos muito espaço com acessórios de cabeça, bolsas, revistas lolita, joias e sapatos, mas não tirei foto. Havia também uma pequena área de “pegue o que quiser de graça”, cheia de meias fofas e joias. Eu tinha algumas joias que colocaria lá - se ao menos eu tivesse trazido minha sacola com coisas para vender :P

Sim, você leu corretamente, fui a uma reunião de ‘troca’ sem nenhum item para trocar. Agora tenho que postar tudo online...

We occupied a lot of space with head accessories, bags, lolita magazines, jewelry and shoes, but I did not take a photo. There was also a small area of "get whatever you want for free", filled with cute socks and jewelry. I had some jewelry I'd place there - if only I had brought my bag of things to sell :P

Yes, you read correctly, I went to a 'swap' meeting without any items to swap. Now I have to post everything online...

Algumas meninas me incentivaram a experimentar um vestido pelo qual me apaixonei - nunca o coloquei na minha lista de desejos dos sonhos porque sempre achei que seria muito caro. Ainda bem que não foi o caso ❤ E me serviu exatamente como eu queria!

Some girls encouraged me to try a dress I fell in love with - I never even had it on my dream wishlist because I always thought it'd be crazy expensive. Thankfully it was not the case ❤ And it fit me just like I wanted!

Antes que me esqueça, esta era a minha roupa. Infelizmente não tirei foto antes de sair, pois estava correndo para chegar a tempo.

Acho que algumas das maiores vantagens de um encontrinho de trocas/swap meet é que você pode experimentar coisas. Talvez algo que você nunca pensou que fosse seu estilo conquiste seu coração! Ou talvez você evite comprar aquele item agora que sabe que as medidas são bem menores do que o que a marca disse / o que está documentado no Lolibrary. Além disso, você sempre pode pechinchar o preço ou oferecer uma troca parcial por uma peça – se fizer isso, seja educada e não tente forçar a outra pessoa a baixar o preço.

I think some of the biggest advantages to a swap meet is that you can try things on. Maybe something that you never thought it was your style will capture your heart! Or maybe you'll avoid to buy that item now you know the measurements are way smaller than what the brand said / what is documented on Lolibrary. Plus, you can always haggle the price or offer a partial trade for a piece - if you do, be polite and do not try to force the other person to go down the price.

Eu absolutamente amo esse bolero! A cor é TÃO linda que tinha certeza que combinaria com meu Sugary Carnival. Tinha um preço muito baixo porque na verdade tem vários buracos de traça :( É lã de verdade, não é poliéster, então eu entendo. Farei o possível para consertar. Os buracos são minúsculos e nem aparecem aqui nesta foto.

I absolutely love this bolero! The color is SO pretty, I was sure it'd match my Sugary Carnival. It had a very low price because it has actually many moth holes :( It is real wool, not polyester, so I understand. I will do my best to mend it. The holes are tiny and do not even show here on this pic.

O top preto é uma blusa de dirndl! Já tenho algumas na cor branca, essa preta vai ficar ótima para o verão - tanto nas roupas tradicionais alemãs (tracht) quanto em lolita ^^

The black top is a dirndl shirt! I already own some in white, this in black will be great for summer - both in traditional tracht or in lolita ^^

Quanto aos acessórios e meias, eu realmente consegui uma pechincha, então espero fazer muitas combinações fofas com eles em pouco tempo.

As for the accessories and socks, I really got all in a bargain so I expect to do many cute coords with them in enough time.

Escrevi 'Orga' com uma estrelinha por dois motivos. Primeiro, porque só aqui na Alemanha é que vi pessoas se referindo aos organizadores dos meetup/eventos como tal, e acho super fofo ❤ Segundo, porque esse encontro também foi uma despedida da Charlotte - ela está se mudando para outra cidade! Ela fez muito por nós e também criou nosso lindo logo de ursinho. Tenho certeza que ela virá nos visitar algumas vezes, mas sentiremos muita falta dela.

I've written 'Orga' with a little star because of two reasons. First, because it is only here in Germany that I saw people refering to the meetup/event organizers as such, and I think it's super sweet ❤ Second, because this meeting was also Charlotte's farewwell - she's moving to another city! She has done so much for us, and she also created our beautiful teddy bear logo. I'm sure she will come sometimes to visit, but we'll miss her a lot.
