Há muito tempo que queria escrever sobre dirndl! Caso você não esteja familiarizado com o nome, é o que a maioria das pessoas associa ao “vestido típico alemão”, embora seja usado principalmente na Bavária/Bayern (sul da Alemanha), Áustria e Sudtirol (um pequeno pedaço ao norte da Itália).
I've been wanting to write about dirndl for ages! In case you are not familiar with the name, it is what most people associate with 'typical german dress', even though it's mostly worn in Bayern (southern Germany), Austria and Sudtirol (a small northern bit from Italy).
Estes vestidos são o que sobreviveu da moda do final do século XIX - os atuais são trajes mais curtos do que antes e geralmente com mais decote (embora não todos). O dirndl atual vem basicamente em três comprimentos: longo (ao redor das panturrilhas), midi (logo abaixo dos joelhos) e curto (um pouco acima dos joelhos). Vou mostrar aqui principalmente os dirndl midi, já que são mais próximos do comprimento da saia lolita. Aqui você pode comparar melhor as diferenças entre um 'dirndl histórico' e um moderno.
These dresses are what survived from late XIX century fashion - they are shorter than before and usually with more décolleté (even though not all of them). Current dirndl comes basically in three lenghts: long (around the calves), midi (right below the knees) and short (a bit above the knees). I'll be showing here mostly midi dirndl, since they are closer to the lolita skirt lenght. Here you can better compare the differences between a 'historical dirndl' and a modern one.
Se você ignorar as 'fantasias de Oktoberfest' 🤢 e vestidos/camisas que são feitos apenas para serem ultracurtos/extra sexy, você pode ver rapidamente que esses visuais são lindos e também divertidos, com uma razoável interseção com o que hoje é a moda lolita - todos os trajes dirndl são compostos por um 'JSK' (o vestido em si), uma camisa, um avental, alguma roupa de baixo (shorts ou bloomers, e uma saia ou anágua), e sapatos combinando. Meias não são obrigatórias, por exemplo, e nem acessórios para a cabeça, mas você verá pessoas usando tudo isso com seus dirndl. Às vezes as mulheres também usam bolsas combinando ou que parecem biscoitos bordados (os Lebkuchenherz)!
If you ignore the 'Oktoberfest costumes' 🤢 and dresses/shirts that are just made to be ultra short / extra sexy, you can quickly notice they are pretty and playful, with a reasonable intersection with what today is lolita fashion - all dirndl outfits are composed of a 'JSK' (the dress per se), a shirt, an apron, some innerwear (shorts or bloomers, and a underskirt or petticoat), and matching shoes. Socks are not required, for example, not are head accessories, but you will see people wearing those with their dirndl. Sometimes women also wear matching bags, or ones that look like cookies (the Lebkuchenherz)!
Pelo que tenho visto, os vestidos dirndl são feitos geralmente com tecidos de estampas/padrões muito pequenos (como guingão/xadrez de vichy, bolinhas ou florais minúsculos), e mais raramente bordados (geralmente os dos anos 70 e 80). Há aqueles com tecidos extravagantes, como aventais delicados de renda de tule, cetins pesados, corpetes de veludo e tudo o mais que você imaginar. Claro, quanto mais sofisticado o vestido, menos adequado para uso diário. Não é tão diferente de lolita nesse sentido - um OP bem cheio de babados no estilo Hime não será usado tão diariamente quanto saias mais lisas ou um Babydoll JSK.
For what I've seen, dirndl dresses are made usually with very small fabric patterns (like gingham, polka dots or tiny florals), and more rarely embroidered (usually the ones from the 70s and 80s). There are the ones with fancy fabrics, like delicate tulle lace aprons, heavy satins, velved bodices and whatever else you can imagine. Of course, the fancier the dress, the less suitable for daily wear. It is not so different from lolita in this sense - a very ruffly Hime-style OP won't be worn as daily as plainer skirts or a Babydoll JSK.

Innocent World - Annete JSK
Este vestido fofo usa o visual de avental dos vestidos dirndl sem parecer uma fantasia. Acho esse corte muito lindo no corpo! Adoro como eles usam o xadrezinho como base para a estampa de barrado com morangos. Este vestido existe em azul claro, vermelho e marrom. Tenho a impressão de que o relançamento tem cores mais escuras/fechadas.
This cute dress uses the apron look from the dirndl dresses without looking costume-y. I find this cut very flattering on the body! I love how they use gingham as a base for the border print with strawberries. This dress comes in light blue and red. I have the impression that the rerelease has darker shades in its colors.
Innocent World - Hannerose JSK
O Hannerose JSK é basicamente a mesma coisa que o vestido acima, mas sem estampa, e o avental não é costurado na saia - é uma peça separada (não tá na imagem acima). Eu ainda acho super elegante, e se você não estiver prestando atenção, nem vai pensar nele como um dirndl, hahaha.
Hannerose JSK is pretty much the same from above, but wihtout a print, and the apron is not sewn in the skirt - it is a separate piece (not shown above). I still find it quite elegant, and if you are not paying attetion, you won't even think of it as a dirndl, hahaha.
Miss Point - Bavarian long Velvet JSK
Esse lindo vestido usa a estampa de painel como forma de imitar o look do avental, e o corpete com cores contrastantes é lindo demais! Vem em três cores completamente diferentes: saia verde + corpete marrom, saia vermelha + corpete preto e saia marfim + corpete azul marinho. Eles parecem saídos de um conto de fadas, e com a capinha que acompanha o conjunto, tem um jeito mega fofo de Chapeuzinho Vermelho.
This gorgeous dress uses the panel prints as a way to mimic the apron look, and the bodice with contrasting color is so pretty! It comes in three completely different colorways: green skirt + brown bodice, red skirt + black bodice, and ivory skirt + navy blue bodice. They look straight from a fairy tale, and with the capelet that comes with the set, has very cute Red Riding Hood vibes.
Surface Spell - Alpine Rose Skirt + JSK + Apron
Essa belezinha preciosa é linda nas duas cores (verde e vermelho) e não consegui escolher um só item para mostrar, tinham que ser os três! Me faltam palavras para descrever o quanto adoro essas peças. Adoro como a estampa faz parecer bordado!
This precious beauty is gorgeous in both colorways (green and red) and I couldn't decide on one single item to show, it had to be all three of them! I lack words to describe how much I love these pieces. I adore how the print makes it looks like embroidery!

Um dos raros dirndl xadrez que não é um xadrez de vichy! (No caso, esse é mais tipo um tartan). O avental é estampado como uma pintura, algo que acho bastante interessante, e também é totalmente removível. Innocent World - Rose Panel JSK
Esse vestido tem novamente painéis na estampa para simular um avental... E é TÃO LINDO! A versão vermelha também é linda, mas a preta leva a melhor na minha opinião. A versão longa tem um corpete diferenciado que também é muito lindo!
This dress has again panelling on the print to mock an apron... And it is SO GORGEOUS! The red colorway is beautiful too, but the black one takes the cake for me. The long version has a different bodice that is also very pretty!
Fleurs et écho~ - Lolita JSK
Há tão pouca informação sobre este vestido online! Só vi em uma revenda do Taobao e no My Lolita Dress (nunca comprei lá então não posso recomendar esse lugar). São 4 cores fofas: saia vermelha + top marrom escuro, saia preta + top vermelho, saia marfim + top caramelo e saia verde + top caramelo/marrom. Adoro como a estampa da borda forma esses lindos arcos! A própria estampa mostra diversas histórias de contos de fadas ❤
There is just so little information about this dress online! I only saw on a Taobao reseller and on My Lolita Dress (I never bought there so I cannot recommend this place). There are 4 cute colorways: red skirt + dark brown top, black skirt + red top, ivory skirt + caramel top, and green skirt + caramel/brown top. I love how the border print makes these pretty arches! The print itself shows various fairy tale stories ❤

This set is super cute, the skirt can be worn on its own on with the whole set! I love that the vest is embroidered~ Don't forget, the apron is sold separately.
Outra maneira de dar um toque 'dirndl' ao seu look é usar vestidos que tenham uma cor de corpete diferente da parte da saia (assim ou assim), ou usando saia + colete/top sem mangas + camisa leve por baixo. Essa combinação também é comum na moda dirndl/trachtenmode - às vezes você pode encontrar o 'colete' (um mieder) nos brechós da Alemanha, e cabe a você decidir com qual saia ele vai combinar!
Another way to have a 'dirndl feel' to your outfit is wearing dresses that have a bodice color different from the skirt part (like this or this), or wearing a skirt + a vest/sleeveless top + light shirt underneath. This combination is also common in dirndl fashion/trachtenmode - you can sometimes find the 'vest' (a mieder) in the thrift shops in germany, and it's up to you which skirt is it going to match!
E dá pra combinar dirndl com lolita? Claro que sim! Para street fashion, vale tudo. Eu pessoalmente amo misturar essas duas coisas ♥ Usei em um grande meeting lolita no Brasil (foto da esquerda, desculpe, não tenho fotos melhores), e também no meu casamento (foto da direita).
And can we mix dirndl and lolita? Yes, of course! For street fashion, everything goes. I personally love mix and matching it ♥ I've worn it to a big lolita meeting in Brazil (left pic, sorry I don't have better pics), and also to my wedding (right pic).
Eu acho que desde que você respeite a silhueta lolita, use sua anágua, mas não encha demais o vestido, o look pode ficar interessante. Isso exigirá algumas tentativas e erros, é claro. Observe que vestidos dirndl combinam melhor com classical lolita do que sweet ou gothic, é por isso que a maioria dos outfits com dirndl são da Innocent World e não da Angelic Pretty ou Moi-Même-Moitié, haha. São os seus acessórios que vão decidir se o seu look é mais dirndl, ou mais lolita. A maioria dos exemplos abaixo usa blusas de dirndl e/ou acessórios típicos de se usar com dirndl.
I think as long as you respect the lolita sillouette, wear your petti but don't overstuff your dress, it can look interesting. It will require some trial and error, of course. Notice that dirndl dresses will suit classical lolita better than sweet or gothic, that's why most dirndl coords are from Innocent World and not from Angelic Pretty or Moi-Même-Moitié, haha. It is your accessories that will decide if your look is more dirndl, or more lolita. Most of the examples below are usind dirndl shirts and/or typical dirndl accessories.

Aqui na Alemanha (e isso provavelmente acontece na Áustria também), muitas marcas 'normais' lançam coleções dirndl por volta de agosto e setembro - então mesmo lugares como C&A e NewYorker terão vestidos dirndl e às vezes uma jaqueta fofa também. É comum que essas peças acabem em brechós e no Vinted, mas raramente aparecem no eBay.
Here in Germany (and this probably happens in Austria as well), many 'normie' brands will release dirndl collections around august and september - so even places like C&A and NewYorker will have dirndl dresses and sometimes a cute jacket as well. It is common for these pieces to end up in thrift shops and at Vinted, but they rarely appear on eBay.
