Além de fazer belíssimas ilustrações para capas de revistas femininas, Macoto também foi mangaká - ele escreveu diversos mangás shoujo, como Norowareta Kopperia (Copélia Amaldiçoada) e Arashi o koete (Além da Tempestade).
In addition to creating beautiful illustrations for the covers of women's magazines, Macoto was also a manga artist - he wrote several shoujo manga, such as Norowareta Kopperia (Cursed Coppelia) and Arashi o koete (Beyond the Storm).
Ele parou de escrever mangá no início dos anos 1960, porque "ele se considerava incapaz de adotar o ponto de vista de uma garota" - talvez no sentido de que ele próprio nunca teria um coração de menina, então era melhor apenas desenhar versões imaginativas delas, deles em vez de escrever uma personagem. He stopped writing manga in the early 1960's, because "he considered himself incapable of adopting the point of view of a girl" - maybe in the sense that he'd never have a girl's heart himself, so it was better to just draw imaginative versions of them instead of writing a character. I think this is quite thoughtful, but I'd love to read his works one day! Many have fairy tale and ballet themas. This is a Swan Lake from 1959!
Algumas das imagens tem mais uma carinha retrô anos 60, dá pra perceber pelas cores e traços mais estilizados. Essa aqui abaixo, por exemplo, parece ser muito a inspiração para essa ilustração da Mezzo aqui.
Some of the images have more of a retro 60s look, you can tell by colors and the more stylized features. This one below, for example, seems to be the inspiration for this one Mezzo illustration here.
Embora ele geralmente faça lindas garotas loiras em ambientes europeus, existem alguns exemplos de garotas com roupas típicas asiáticas. Esse eu acho que representa o japonês, mas também já vi algumas com hanbok (coreano) e outras com vestimentas qipao (chinês).
Although he generally makes cute blonde girls in an european settings, there are a few examples of girls in typical asiatic clothing. This one I think represents the japanese, but I've also seen a couple with hanbok (korean) and others with qipao (chinese) garments.
