Ok, isso pode ter soado meio dramático, mas prometo que vai fazer sentido!

Claire Belton é uma artista dos Estados Unidos que faz ilustrações fofinhas. Hoje em dia, sua criação mais famosa é a Pusheen, uma gatinha que começou ilustrando as figurinhas do Facebook, mas Claire já desenhou muitas artes voltadas para o público lolita antigamente!

Ok, that might have sound quite dramatic, but I promise it will make sense!

Claire Belton is an artist from the United States that does cute illustrations. Nowadays, her most famous work is Pusheen, a little cat that begin its career illustrating Facebook's stickers, but Claire has already made many arts intended to the lolita audience in the old days!

Você provavelmente já viu mil desenhos fofos dessa gatinha cinzenta por aí :) essa acima é de 2014 e eu achei no tumblr, e a internet tá cheia de mais desenhos fofos da Pusheen - mas eu quero mostrar hoje as ilustrações mais antigas da Claire. Além de fazer sucesso no DeviantArt, as artes dela também estamparam produtos numa loja própria (a Cute Plush) e a segunda edição da Gothic & Lolita Bible em inglês.

You probably saw a thousand drawings of this cute gray cat around :) this above is from 2014 and I found at tumblr, and the whole internet is full of other cute pics from Pusheen - but today I wanna show Claire's older illustrations. Not only shw was very famous on DeviantArt, her arts also were printed on cute products on her own show (Cute Plush) and were also on the cover of the second Gothic & Lolita Bible english edition.

(Sim, durante um tempo existiram edições em inglês das GLB! Essa é uma das poucas que eu tenho cópia, mas está no Brasil, então peguei a imagem de algum lugar da internet.)

(Yes, for a while there were english editions of the GLB! This is one of the few that I actually own a copy, but it's back there in Brazil, so I got the pic from somewhere on the internet.)

As artes da Claire normalmente mostravam garotas adoráveis com vestidos fofos, e muitas vezes com estampas ou estilos das grandes marcas Lolita japonesas. Essa acima era da Metamorphose, e a imagem abaixo, da Angelic Pretty, foi a ilustração que me fez descobrir que essas "garotas de vestido fofos" não eram só desenhos, e sim uma moda real que pessoas reais usavam:

Claire's arts normally depicted lovely girls in cute dresses, and many times with prints or styles in the big japanese lolita brands. This above was from Metamorphose, and the one below, from Angelic Pretty, was the one that made me realize that the "girls in lovely dresses" were not only illustrations, but a real fashion that real people wore:

O dia que eu vi essa ilustração, láááá em 2006, e eu entrei nesse site, eu vi os vestidos à venda. Aí comecei a procurar e vi PESSOAS USANDO essas roupas lindas - não só mais ilustrações ou animações japonesas vagamente inspiradas nisso. Aquele dia minha vida virou de cabeça pra baixo e a Heidi de 13 anos de idade decidiu que era isso que queria usar.

The day I saw this illustration, baaack there in 2006, I entered the website and saw the dresses on sale. Then I began to search and saw PEOPLE WEARING these beautiful clothing - not only in illustration or japanese animation vaguely inspired on that. That day my life turned upside down and the 13-year-old Heidi decided that's what she wanted to wear.

Eu sempre quis comprar algo da Claire, mas naquela época eu era não só muito nova mas também sem dinheiros internacionais :D Então guardei essa vontade, e só muitos anos depois comprei uma camiseta da Cute Plush de segunda mão, de uma amiga em Porto Alegre. Tenho uma foto usando aqui.

I always wante to buy something from Claire, but at that time I was not only too young but also devoid of international money :D So I kept my will to myself, and only many years later I bought a second hand Cute Plush shirt from a friend in Porto Alegre. There's a picture of me wearing it.

Ah, e a Claire também é/era lolita! Eu não vejo mais atividade dela online usando a moda, por isso não tenho certeza, mas as pessoas tem direito à suas vidas privadas, correto? Então aqui vai uma foto fofa de antigamente dela ;)

Ah, and Claire also is/was lolita! I don't see any more activity online from her wearing the fashion, that's why I'm not sure, but people have right to their private lives, correct? So here's an old cute pic of her ;)

O site maravilhoso dela também me inspirou a melhorar minhas habilidades de código - HTML e CSS, no caso. Eu ainda não sabia fazer ilustrações no computador, mas se pudesse, ia ter feito um site igual a isso:

The wonderful website she had also inspired me to improve my skills on coding - HTML and CSS, in this case. I still didn't know how to make illustrations on my computer, but if I knew, I'd make a site just like this:

Ah, mais: Ela foi responsável por ter criado um dos joguinhos de vestir Lolita mais amados de muita gente. Era um jogo em flash, algo que atualmente não roda mais em nenhum navegador comum da internet, mas era muito fofo. Além de ter um cenário lindo, vários dos objetos do "cenário" podiam ser arrastados para se tornarem parte das estampas dos vestidos! Esse printscreen foi feito por Nishi06 no DeviantArt.

Ah, there's more: She was responsible for creating one of the most beloved Lolita dress up games ever. It was a flash game, somehting that doesn't work in any common web browser, but it was very cute. Not only it had a cute scenery for the doll, many of the "scenery" objects could be dragged to create a print for the doll's dress! This screencap was made by Nishi06 at DeviantArt.

Ela tinha principalmente personagens em cores adoráveis, como essa menina Parfait:

Mas também tinha alguns estilos mais dark como essa gothic lolita.

Já faz pelo menos uns 12 anos que não vejo artes novas lolita da Claire Belton. Até onde eu sei, a artista prefere manter apenas as artes da Pusheen como suas aparições públicas, e não vejo isso mudando em breve. Apesar disso, a arte lolita dela tem um lugar muito especial no meu coração.

It's been at least 12 years that I don't see new lolita arts from Claire Belton. As far as I know, the artist prefers to keep only Pusheen art as her public appearances, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Despite all this, her lolita art has a truly special place in my heart.
