Então, o que é a moda lolita para você? Um assunto complicado? Um jeito de se vestir? Um estilo de vida fofinho e adorável? Amor a cultura japonesa? Talvez uma mistura de mil coisas?

So, what is lolita fashion for you? A complicated subject? A way of dressing up? A cute and adorable lifestyle? Love to japanese culture? Maybe a mix of a thousand things?

Minha ideia hoje é falar um pouco do que lolita é e não é, e do que significa para mim.

My idea today is to talk a little bit of what lolita is and what it isn't, and what it means to me.

Para começar, moda lolita é uma moda japonesa, uma moda que começou nas ruas - não nas passarelas. Lolita são ROUPAS, acima de tudo.

Just for starters, lolita fashion is a japanese fashion, a fashion that started on the streets - not on runways. Lolita is CLOTHING, most of all.

Lolita não é sobre ser sexy. Não é um fetiche ou algo para despertar o interesse romântico ou sexual dos outros - lolita é algo que eu visto para mim mesma.

Lolita is not about being sexy. It is not a fetish or something to get the romantic or sexual interest from other people - lolita is something I dress for myself.

Se você olhar com atenção, vai perceber que todos esses looks mostrados seguem um padrão: vestidos ou saias armados, mais ou menos na altura do joelho (acima ou abaixo dele, mas não muuuito longe disso), algo no cabelo, meias interessantes, sapatos que acompanhem o visual, eventualmente uma bolsa... Dá pra resumir numa ilustração:

If you look closely, you'll notice that all those looks shown here follow a pattern: poofy dresses or skirts around knee-lenght (above or below it, but not too far from that), something on their hair, interesting socks, shoes that match the visual, sometimes a bag... You can sum it up in an illustration:

De cima para baixo:

• head accessory: acessório de cabelo! Pode ser um laço, um headdress, um canotier, um arquinho de pérolas, pequenos clips de lacinho...
• blouse: uma camisa, cutsew ou camiseta que faça sentido com o visual - não é necessário se você estiver usando um OP.
• main piece: um OP (vestido com mangas), um JSK (vestido sem mangas) ou uma saia. Todos tem um certo volume, que é a parte mais importante da silhueta.
• under things: a anágua/saia de armação e os bloomers. Eles fazem com que um vestido/saia fique com aquele "puf" fofo na parte de baixo.
• socks: meias curtas, meias no joelho (UTK), meias longas (OTK) ou meia-calça (acho que minhas amigas portuguesas chamam isso de collants). Podem ser lisos ou ter uma estampa / textura interessante!
• shoes: sapatos ou botas que combinem com o visual!

From top to bottom:

• head accessory: Anything cute on your head! It can be a bow, a headdress, a canotier, a pearl headbad, small clips with bows...
• blouse: a shirt, cutsew or t-shirt that makes sense with your outfit - it is not required if you are wearing an OP.
• main piece: a OP (sleeved dress), a JSK (sleeveless dress) or a skirt. All of they have a certain volume, it is the most important part of the sillouette.
• under things: your petticoat and bloomers! The make a dress/skirt get that cute "poof" in the bottom part.
• socks: short socks, knee-length socks (UTK), long socks (OTK) or pantyhose/tights. They can be solid colored or have a print or interesting textures on it.
• shoes: shoes or boots that match the whole thing!

Whew 😅 that was long, but it's a very basic summary.

Você pode até tirar um ou outro elemento do conjunto, mas algumas coisas são necessárias para que o estilo ainda possa ser reconhecido como Lolita. Essas são as coisas que eu listei.

You can even take on or another element of the whole set, but some things are essential so the style can still be recognizable as Lolita. Those are the things I listed.

Você pode usar um visual/look/coordinate/outfit simples ou ir complementando com mais acessórios - colares, anéis, pulseiras, wristcuffs, chapéus, lenços, casacos, bolsas... Enquanto fizer sentido com o seu visual, se as cores forem harmônicas entre si, vai ficar lindo de se ver e interessante ♡

You can wear a simple coordinate/look/visual/outfit or complement it with more accessories - necklaces, rings, bracelets, wristcuffs, hats, scarves, coats, bags... While it makes sense with your outfit, id the colors are harmonious, it will be beautiful to look at and interesting ♡

Escolhi exemplos lolita de sites de moda japoneses que publicam as fotos com autorização das/dos modelos, mas existem lolitas de todos os tipos, tamanhos e cores por aí! Ainda quero explicar mais sobre algumas peças que não são comuns fora do meio lolita (wristcuffs e canotiers, por exemplo), mas isso vai ser em outro post. Espero que você tenha gostado da minha ilustração meio tipo instax 😊 estou aprendendo a mexer melhor na mesa digitalizadora/tablet, uma hora pego a prática. Minha inspiração pra fazer uma ilustração mais cor-de-rosa e menos fotográfica foi uma "anatomia lolita" que minha amiga Kakao fez anos atrás para um outro blog.

I chose those lolita examples from japanese fashion websites that publish photos with the models authorization, but there are lolitas in all styles, sizes and colors around the world! I still wanna explain more about some pieces that are not common outsite lolita fashion (wristcuffs and canotiers, for example), but that's gonna happen in another post. I hope you like my "instax style" illustration 😊 I'm learning how to draw better at a tablet, some day I'll get more practice on it. My inspiration in making it all pink and less photographic-like was from a "lolita anatomy" illustration that my friend Kakao made years ago for another blog.

E no fim, o que lolita significa pra mim? Lolita é um jeito de vestir que me permite explorar a criatividade e me sentir linda ao mesmo tempo. Me dá espaço pra criar e me faz sentir no topo do mundo. Lolita é uma moda que me parece mil vezes mais sustentável, usando materiais que duram, porque se baseia muito em revender e usar o que já existe - por mais que a gente adore um novo lançamento das nossas marcas favoritas! Lolita me ajudou a me reconectar com meu lado mais feminino e delicado que por muito tempo estava sendo ignorado, num meio que esperava que eu fosse séria, inteligente e não "infantil". Lolita é minha rebeldia, é meu jeito de dizer que posso ser inteligente e séria E TAMBÉM FOFA, que uma coisa não anula a outra. Não sou "mais criança" por gostar de coisas fofas, sou uma adulta que cuida de sua própria vida, paga suas próprias contas e escolhe se cercar de coisas e roupas bonitas pra se sentir bem. É isso. 💖

And, in the end, what does lolita means to me? Lolita is a way of dressing up that allows me to explore creativity and makes me feel beautiful at the same time. It gives me space to create and makes me feel on the top of the world. Lolita is a fashion that seems to me a thousand times more sustainable, using long-lasting materials, because it's pretty much based in reusing and reselling what's already there - even though we all love to see new releases from our beloved brands! Lolita helped me reconnect with my delicate, more feminine side that was long being ignored, in a world that expected me to be serious and intelligent and not "childish". Lolita is my being a rebel, it is my way to say that I can be intelligent and serious AND ALSO CUTE, that one thing does not cancel out the other. I'm not a child for liking cute things, I am an adult that takes care of her own life, pays her own bills and chooses to surround herself with pretty things and clothes to feel good. That's about it! 💖
