Já fazia um bom tempo que eu estava procurando pela jaquetinha/blazer ideal pra fazer essa customização. Eu gosto muito dos designs da Vivienne Westwood, e a jaqueta de coração / heart jacket é um clássico.

I had been looking for the ideal little jacket or blazer for this customization project for quite some time. I really love Vivienne Westwood's designs, and the "heart jacket" is a classic.

Porém, se voce reparar no preço, ela é muito fora do alcance. Me lembro de ter visto uma numa Closet Child quando eu estava no Japão, mas o preco em ienes tinha mais zeros do que eu consegui contar. No mercado online ocidental, não é diferente.

However, if you look at the price, it’s completely out of reach. I remember seeing one at a Closet Child store when I was in Japan, but the price in yen had more zeros than I could count. It’s no different on the Western online market.

Pois bem, na minha última viagem eu passei em vários brechós e feirinhas, e numa dessas, lá na Estônia, eu achei esse blazer do meu tamanho. Eu sinto que ele estava me esperando - ele combinou lindamente com a roupa que eu já estava vestindo, caiu perfeito nos ombros e ainda teve 50% de desconto quando fui pagar, yay! ❤

So, on my last trip, I stopped by several thrift stores and flea markets, and at one of them, over in Estonia, I found this blazer in my size. I feel like it was waiting for me: it matched beautifully the outfit I was already wearing, fit perfectly across the shoulders, and was even 50% off when I went to pay, yay! ❤

Pra mim o que pegou foi a cor. Eu já queria achar a peça certa pra fazer a modificação já tinha mais de ano... Ele infelizmente tinha esse defeitinho dentro: o forro tava bem usado, com dois pontos onde ele rasgou. A etiqueta de cuidados/limpeza também já deixou de existir faz muitos anos, com certeza... Mas eu gostei de poder espiar como a construção da jaqueta foi feita! Ela tem camadas de tecido mais rígido, estrutural, entre o lado de fora e o forro, que tornam ela com um formato muito específico bonito no corpo. Deu pra ver vários pontos feitos à mão também.

For me, it was the color that really stood out. I’d been looking for the right piece to modify for over a year... Unfortunately, it did have a minor flaw inside: the lining was quite worn, with two spots where it had torn. The care/cleaning label had certainly gone missing years ago, too... But I loved getting a peek at how the jacket was constructed! It has layers of stiffer, structural fabric between the outer shell and the lining, which give it a very specific, flattering shape when worn. I could also see several hand-stitched details.

Mas eu tenho linha, agulha e coragem, então dei meu jeito! Eu higienizei a peça com um pouco de álcool numa garrafinha de spray (sim, vodka barata, pra matar qualquer bactéria e não deixar a peça molhada como numa lavagem convencional), fechei o furo maior, e peguei um pouco de papel pra fazer o rascunho e saber quão grande tinha que ser a lapela de coração.

But I had thread, a needle, and some guts, so I figured it out! I sanitized the piece with a little alcohol from a spray bottle (yes, cheap vodka—to kill any bacteria without soaking the item like a regular wash would), closed up the larger hole, and grabbed some paper to sketch out the heart-shaped patch and see how big it needed to be.

Confesso que tenho um bocado de preguiça, plus eu sei que não consigo cortar nada em linha reta. Então eu primeiro cortei duas metades do coração de feltro (vai ser meu material estrutural!) e alfinetei meu tecido de algodão preto por baixo do feltro. Costurei na máquina o formato, e cortei depois. Daí coloquei o feltro dentro da metade de coração costurada, e fiz os acabamentos todos com linha e agulha mesmo, sem a máquina.

I admit I’m a bit lazy—plus, I know I can’t cut a straight line to save my life. So, I started by cutting out two felt heart halves (this would serve as the structural base) and pinned the black cotton fabric underneath the felt. I machine-stitched the shape and trimmed the excess fabric afterward. Then, I inserted the felt into the stitched heart half and finished everything off by hand—using just a needle and thread, without the machine.

Costurar as lapelas no blazer foi a parte mais tranquila e relaxante, fiz toda à mão também. Não demorou muito tempo, o projeto todo eu acho que fiz em no máximo uma hora, se não contar os intervalos que fiz fazendo outras coisas pela casa.

Sewing the lapels onto the blazer was the easiest and most relaxing part; I did it all by hand as well. It didn't take long—I think I completed the whole project in an hour at most, not counting the breaks I took to do other things around the house.

E esse foi meu resultado final! Não sei fazer pose de modelo e carão (um dia eu aprendo!), meu sorriso é aberto porque fiquei orgulhosa demais do resultado. Meu marido tirou a segunda foto.

And this was my final result! I don't know how to strike a model pose or give a fierce look (I'll learn someday!), but I'm beaming because I was so proud of the outcome. My husband took the second photo.
