A revista Jaded Magazine começou como um projeto kickstarter da Jaded Island. Talvez você já conheça Jade pelo seu perfil fofo do Instagram, ela é super ativa lá e sempre posta fotos de moda interessantes.
The Jaded Magazine began as a kickstarter project from Jaded Island. Maybe you know Jade already from her cute instagram profile, she's super active there and always posts interesting fashion photos.
Bem, essa revista foi anunciada em março de 2023 (acho?) e ficou pronta por volta de junho ou julho de 2024. Só recebi o número de rastreamento no final de julho, parecia meio perdida no correio e finalmente chegou enquanto eu estava fora do país, viajando 😅. Tive que convencer a agência perto de casa a não enviá-la de volta antes de eu chegar. Já faz mais de um mês... Enfim, tá na mão.
Well, this magazine was announced in march from 2023 (I think?) and it was ready around june or july 2024. I only got the tracking number on the end of July, it seemed kinda lost in the mail and it finally arrived while I was out of the country, travelling 😅. I had to convince the post office not to ship it back before I arrived. It's been more than a month now... Anyway, here it is.
Adorei que o plástico bolha é rosa e que mesmo por fora ficou bonito. O tema era "lovecore" e acho que Jade + a equipe acertaram em cheio ❤
I love that the bubble wrap is pink and that even outside it looked nice. The theme was 'lovecore' and I think Jade + the team nailed it ❤
Olha só todos os mini corações, adesivos e cartões postais e tudo o que veio com a revista: as bonecas de papel são uma lindeza! Também estou feliz em ver mais garotas negras representadas na moda Lolita - especialmente em arte fofinha.
Take a look at all the mini hearts and stickers and postcards and everything that came with it: the paper dolls are just a delight! I'm also happy to see more black girls represented in Lolita fashion - especially in cute art.
De forma geral, esta revista tem algumas entrevistas, muitas fotos de moda e poucos anúncios. Os anúncios são especialmente interessantes porque são de marcas que fazem sentido para nossos gostos lolita + moda alternativa, eles mal parecem propaganda. Pessoalmente, eu adoro a variedade de ensaios fotográficos, eles normalmente são a coisa mais inspiradora em uma revista para mim.
Overall, this magazine has a couple interviews, many fashion shots and few advertisements. The ads are specially interesting because they are from brands that make sense for our lolita + alt fashion tastes, they barely feel like ads. Personally, I love the variety of photoshoots, they are usually the most inspiring thing in a magazine for me.
Em uma nota técnica, e com isso quero dizer, como designer, eu gostaria que a editora tivesse deixado um pouco mais de espaço vazio nas páginas. Quando o conteúdo está tão perto das bordas, não é muito agradável de ler, e se isso acontece na parte central da revista, fica difícil de ler por causa de como o papel dobra. Na faculdade de design, geralmente deixávamos as margens internas maiores do que as externas precisamente por causa disso. Eu também sei que esta é uma revista de moda alternativa que provavelmente segue mais de perto a maneira como os japoneses costumavam fazer suas revistas nos anos 2000, então isso também pode ter acontecido por causa da estética. O outro aspecto é que algumas imagens estão em resolução muito baixa (como em 'pixeladas') em comparação com outras fotos, ter alguém extra para verificar isso ou fazer uma impressão de teste em p&b poderia ter evitado isso. Eu ainda acho que este é um feedback construtivo para compartilhar.
On a technical note, and by that I mean, as a designer, I wish the editor would have left a bit of more empty space in the pages. When your content is so close to the borders, it is not very pleasant to read, and if it happens in the central part of the magazine, it gets hard to read because of how the paper folds. In design college we'd usually leave the inner margins bigger than the outer margins precisely because of this. I also know that this is an alt fashion magazine that probably follows closer the way the japanese used to do their magazines in the 2000s, so that could have also happened because of the aesthetics. The other aspect is that some images are in really low resolution (as in 'pixelated') in comparison with other pictures, having someone extra to check that or doing a b&w test print could have prevented this. I still think this is some constructive feedback to share.
Sobre os artigos, alguns me tocaram profundamente. Ler histórias de outras pessoas, entender suas vidas, suas lutas e seu triunfo com a moda e com ter encontrado uma comunidade segura realmente deixou meu coração quentinho.
On the articles, some touched me deeply. Reading stories from other people, understanding their lives, their struggles, and their triumph with fashion and finding a safe community made my heart really warm.
Esta edição da revista me fez sentir mais vontade de usar vermelho com rosa e costurar corações em tudo. Ainda tenho um avental que precisa de uma parte superior de coração, talvez isso possa ser um projeto para algum momento deste ano? Vamos ver o que acontece! Se eu usar roupas com esse tema, vou marcá-las como 'lovecore' de agora em diante ♥
This magazine issue made me feel more like wearing red with pink, and sewing hearts onto everything. I still have an apron that needs a heart upper part, maybe this can be a project for sometime this year? Let's see what happens! If I wear outfits themed like that, I will tag them as 'lovecore' from now on ♥
Acho que o final com coraçõezinhos com mensagens de alguns dos apoiadores e amigos do Kickstarter foi uma despedida muito legal. Simplesmente adorável!
I think the ending with talking hearts from some of the kickstarter backers and friends was a really nice farewell message. Just lovely!
Gostei muito da Jaded e espero que possa haver um volume 2, 3, talvez até 10! Desejo a todos o melhor e espero poder contribuir com eles em algum momento com arte, talvez um artigo, quem sabe?
