Super kawaii super heroines!
Talvez esse não seja o mangá mais lolita de todos, mas é uma história fofa e foi algo que me aprofundou no Anime e no Japão em geral. Este é o Tokyo Mew Mew, também conhecido como Mew Mew Power na TV norte-americana, ou As Super Gatinhas no Brasil!
Maytbe this is not the most lolita manga ever, but it's a cute story and it was something that got me deeper into Anime and Japan in general. This is Tokyo Mew Mew, also known as Mew Mew Power on the north american TV, and "As Super Gatinhas" (the super kittens) in Brazil!
Eu obviamente assisti o anime antes de ler o mangá: os quadrinhos foram lançados pela primeira vez na Nakayoshi por volta de 2000, e a animação foi transmitida em canais de TV ao redor do mundo em 2004. Eu tinha 11 anos na época e pensei em um time de super-heroínas-gatos foi a melhor coisa de todas! (Inicialmente pensei que todas fossem misturados com gatos, por causa do nome enganoso em português. Depois percebi que a roxa tinha que ser uma loba, então não uma gata, e de repente Ichigo era a única gatinha.) Até desenhei a minha própria personagem mistura de bichinho/comida (o nome dela é Amora/Kuroichigo, ela era uma jaguatirica + amora) e eu shippava/fazia parzinho dela com Kisshu.
I obviously watched the anime before reading the manga: the comic books were first released in Nakayoshi around 2000, and the animation was broadcasted on TV channels around the world in 2004. I was 11 at the time and thought a team of super cat-heroines was just the best thing ever! (I initially thought they all were mixed with cats, because of the misleading name in Portuguese. Then I realized the purple one had to be a wolf, so not a cat, and suddenly Ichigo was the only cat.) I even designed my own animal/food combination (her name is Amora/Kuroichigo, she whas a ocelot + blackberry) and shipped/paired her with Kisshu.
Só tive contato com o mangá muitos anos depois, ao rever toda a série em japonês com legendas em inglês, e me irritei com o enredo de TMM a La Mode (sequência do Tokyo Mew Mew original). Então, aqui na Alemanha, descobri que esses mangás eram um tanto fáceis de encontrar à venda, e os comprei em partes para poder ter a coleção completa, incluindo a parte A La Mode. Então, agora eu poderia ler as aventuras de Ichigo (Zoey), Minto (Corinna), Retasu (Bridget), Purin (Kiki) e Zakuro (Renée), além de Berry! ❤
I only got in contact with the manga many years later, when re-watching the whole series in japanese with english subs, and got pissed at the plot of TMM a La Mode (the sequel of original Tokyo Mew Mew). So here in Germany, I found out these mangas were somewhat easy to find for sale, and I bought them in parts so I could have the full collection, including the A La Mode part. So, now I could read the adventures of Ichigo (Zoey), Minto(Corinna), Retasu(Bridget), Purin(Kiki) and Zakuro(Renée), plus Berry! ❤
É comum compararem a história com Sailor Moon, por motivos óbvios: uma colegial era a personagem principal e ela tinha um grupo de amigas que também ganha superpoderes para combater o mal. Mas em TMM nossa protagonista é "fundida com o DNA de uma espécie em extinção" ao invés de receber poderes cósmicos, e toda a trama torna a coisa mais "científica" do que "mágica", mesmo tendo alienígenas envolvidos. Tem também o fato do mangá ter uma vibe bem ambientalista, o que eu aprecio muito.
The story was often compared to Sailor Moon, for obvious reasons: a schoolgirl was the main character and she had a group of friends who also get super powers to fight evil. But in TMM, our protagonist is "merged with the DNA of an endangered species" instead of receiving cosmical powers, and the whole plot makes the thing more "scientific" than "magical", even though there are aliens involved. There is also the fact that the manga has a very environmentalist vibe to it, which I appreciate a lot.
E, claro, também tem romance, desenvolvimento de personagens, brigas de garotas, amizade entre garotas, um café fofo com roupas de empregadinha... Tudo o que eu poderia querer para uma série alegre e fofa. Nesse sentido, o anime até alongou essas outras partes, enquanto o mangá foi bem mais curto nesse desenvolvimento. As mudanças na história são mínimas entre o anime e o mangá, o enredo permanece o mesmo.
And of course, you also get romance, character development, girls fighting, girl friendship, a cute café with maid outfits... Everything I could wish for a lighthearted series. In this sense, the anime even made this other parts longer, while the manga was quite shorter in this development. The story changes are minimal between anime and manga, the plot stays the same.
Eu realmente adoro o aspecto visual: as roupas das Mew Mews são tão modernas, cada uma muito diferente de suas colegas, mas também harmoniosas entre si. O look do Ichigo é o meu preferido e sempre me faz pensar em uma saia lolita. A roupa de Berry é fofa desse jeito meio bailarina!
I really love the visual part of it: the outfits of the Mew Mews are so fresh, each very different from their counterparts, but also harmonious. Ichigo's outfit is my favorite and always made me think of a lolita skirt. Berry's outfit is cute in this similar ballerina way!
Há mais três coisas que gostaria de falar sobre essa história: primeiro, como o mangá era bastante famoso na época, também existem dois videogames, para os quais uma outra personagem, Ringo, foi desenvolvida. Ela também é muito fofa, mas raramente vejo imagens dela online.
There are three more things I'd like to talk about this story: first, since the manga was quite famous at its time, there is also two videogames, for which another character, Ringo, was developed. She is also quite cute, but I rarely see any images of her online.
Em segundo lugar, há o remake do anime. Eu quero tanto assistir! Ainda não encontrei nenhum streaming legal aqui na Alemanha, e não quero arriscar ser multada por download pirata, então vou esperar. Eu sei que há muitas mudanças nas roupas, e provavelmente algumas na história, mas eu não sei. (Comparação aqui!) As mudanças de roupa me incomodaram um pouco: embora as opções de cores sejam melhores, o design em si é menos variado e o visual é mais uniforme. Todas parecem convencionalmente super bonitas e perfeitas, em vez de terem algumas falhas ou cabelos esquisitos. Suponho que a Zakuro seja mais fácil de desenhar com o cabelo preso/rabo-de-cavalo durante as cenas de combate, e que a renda triangular em todas as roupas também seja mais fácil de desenhar do que fazer parecer rendinhas de verdade...
Second, there's the remake anime. I want to watch it so bad! I didn't find any legal streamings here in Germany yet, and I don't wanna risk getting fined for a pirate download, so it will wait. I know there are many changes in the outfits, and probably some in story, but I don't know. (Comparison here!) The outfit changes bothered me a little: even though the color choices are better, the design itself is less varied, and their look is more uniform. They all seem conventionally super pretty and perfect, instead of having some flaws or wonky hair. I suppose Zakuro was easier to draw with the tied hair/ponytail during combat, and that the triangular lace on every outfit is also easier to draw than real lace looks...
Terceiro, foi pesado para mim no ano passado quando fiquei sabendo sobre a morte da Mia Ikumi. Ela é quem criou o TMM e morreu durante o reboot do anime. Tive a sensação de que nenhum novo material lançado jamais teria espírito original da Mia. Por isso fiquei muito feliz quando descobri que nessas edições do mangá tem outras histórias dela, como uma parte da Tokyo Black Cat, sua ideia original para o Tokyo Mew Mew, o Petit Mew Mew (somente personagens chibi!) e A Princesa Adormecida Na Floresta de Morangos, sua primeira história. ♥
Third, It hit me really hard last year when I found out about Mia Ikumi's death. She is the one who created TMM, and she died during the reboot of the anime. I had the feeling that no new material released would ever have her original spirit. That's why I was really glad when I found out that, in these editions of the manga, there are other of her stories, such as a part of the Tokyo Black Cat, her original idea for Tokyo Mew Mew, the Petit Mew Mew (only chibi characters!) and The Sleeping Princess of Berry Forest, her first ever story. ♥
Isso pode não ter nada a ver, mas eu amo muito os nomes americanizados, porque eu senti que eles tinham mais personalidade ao invés de serem apenas comida ^^' Eu não chamaria minha personagem principal de Alface ou Menta (Retasu e Minto), por exemplo, mas eu entendo que poderia funcionar como um nome de super-herói. Como "Zoey Alguma Coisa" é "Mew Ichigo"! Parece mais misterioso para mim~
Se algum dia eu fosse escrever uma história em quadrinhos sobre garotas superpoderosas com poderes animais para salvar o mundo da destruição e da poluição, já tenho os nomes e as roupas de cada uma delas. (A propósito, eles são sete desde o início e são o Projeto ROYGBIV. Um dia vou terminar de escrever!)
This might be a bit unrelated, but I love their americanized names a lot, because I felt like they had more character instead of being just food ^^' I wouldn't name my main character Lettuce or Mint (Retasu and Minto), for example, but I understand that it could work out as a super hero name. Like "Zoey Something" is "Mew Ichigo"! Looks more mysterious to me~
If I ever was to write a comic about super powered girls with animal powers to save the world from destruction and pollution, I already have the names and outfits to each of them. (By the way they are seven from the start and they are the Project ROYGBIV. One day I'll finish writing it!)
